On Saturday 17 November, the doors of the newly restored St Mary Magdalene Project will open to the public, for a free, community open day between 1pm and 4pm.
Visitors will be invited to join guided tours of the Gothic building; to learn about the extensive restoration to the Grade 1 Listed church. Central to the restoration has been the cleaning of the intricately painted ceilings in the Nave and Chancel. The paintings had become discoloured and obscured by dirt and the painstaking cleaning process has revealed detailed depictions of liturgical scenes. Caroe Architecture Ltd, who oversaw the conservation and repair of the building, have been awarded the 2018 King of Prussia Gold Medal, a national architectural award, for their work.
The restored church and purpose-built Living Heritage Centre, which will open in 2019, will provide an exciting new addition to Paddington’s art and cultural scene. You will be provided with a sneak-peek of the performance space at the Open Day, where live music will be performed, alongside art workshops, performances and plenty of fun activities for children on offer.
Stay at Indigo London Paddington, located minutes away from Saint Mary Magdalene Church, Paddington.
