London Design Festival turns 20 this September!
A celebration and promotion that shows the city as a design capital on a global scale, London Design Festival returns for its 20th year as it takes over several different venues / landscapes throughout London from the 17th – 25th September.
Launched in 2003 by Sir John Sorrell CBE & Ben Evans CBE, London Design Festival was built on London’s well known existing design activity the concept being to create an event that runs annually and that promotes the city’s creativity. Aiming to bring together the country’s best educators, practitioners, retailers and thinkers to deliver an unforgettable celebration of all types of design. The inaugural Festival was on 25 March 2003 and was hosted at the Bloomberg, with a show of support from design, education, government and London organisations. 20 years later, this vision remains ever strong.
The London Design Festival that was hosted in 2019 opened it’s doors to 600,000 visitors, a record-breaking amount of attendees visiting from 75 countries. As it moves into its second decade, the Festival celebrates the fact that it has certainly played a key role in the growth of the design industry, solidifying London’s position as a global destination for business, culture and tourism, and contributed to the UK’s reputation as a creative powerhouse.
As one of the world’s leading design events, the LDF has also served as the blueprint for design weeks and festivals globally and continues to be a key moment on the cultural calendar.
