Onsite Talk: Collecting Spain at the V&A Museum
On Monday 16th January 2023, the V&A museum are inviting those who are interested to join the museum’s curators and co-editors of a new book published titled Collecting Spain: Collecting Spanish Decorative Arts in Britain and Spain. The aim of the talk is to dig deeper to discover how the V&A museum has managed to procure items such as furniture, textiles and a plethora of other objects from Spain.
The Collecting Spain event at V&A Museum itself is a celebration and will focus on highlighting the role that the V&A museum played in obtaining objects and collaborating alongside private collectors, dealers and experts between the mid-1850s and 1945.
The co-editors of the book Ana Cabrera Lafuente and Lesley Miller will both be giving short presentations, as well as curators Nick Humphrey, Kirstin Kennedy and Mariam Rosser-Owen. The presentations will focus on the origins of the project and on the process of collections in the fields of furniture, lusterware, silver and textiles. Conservator Victor Borges will also be giving a presentation on discoveries made during the recent conservation of Spanish plaster casts.
